One Week In

So I succeeded in making it through the first week of my marathon training program and I am still in one piece. Yesterday provided nearly perfect running conditions for my long run of the week. I had 8 miles to put in and Erin suggested that I head out to Saylorville so that is just what I did. My legs felt great through the first 7 miles but ended up getting a little tired over the last mile. Part of that could have to do with the fact that I forgot my energy gel at home. My legs recovered very quickly and I didn't have any soreness today at all.

I also had a great swim on Friday morning. I've been swimming at a pace around 2:45 min/100 yd during my 1,000 yd swims but on Friday I managed an average of 2:24 min/100 yd which is nearly back to my in season pace from last summer.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been following a nutrition plan that my wife, Erin, helped me design. I'm happy to say that the plan seems to be working. I have been feeling great over the past couple of weeks. My energy levels have been up, and training and recovery have improved.

Oh, and since I haven't mentioned it so far, Erin is killing it on the treadmill these days. She has put in something like 120 miles so far this year and isn't slowing down at all. Her dedication has been inspiring and I have really enjoyed sharing a goal with her for the year.
